Marvel’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and ‘Abbott Elementary’ Win Big at 2023 NAACP Image Awards

2023 NAACP Image Awards

Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” were among the top winners of the 2023 NAACP Image Awards, which held its live final ceremony in front of an audience for the first time in three years on February 25.

Because the awards encompass so many categories, there were several smaller ceremonies held during the week leading up to the live broadcast, so the list of winners below includes wins not televised.

Actress Angela Bassett was the big winner of the evening, winning the Entertainer of the Year award, in addition to Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for “9-1-1,” and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her work on “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Speaking of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” the movie walked away with ten wins, including Outstanding Motion Picture.

Meanwhile on the TV side, “Abbott Elementary” continues its awards sweep with six wins, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

Other wins included Pixar’s “Lightyear,” the Disney+ series “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,” and ABC’s “20/20.”

The NAACP Image Awards recognize achievement in the arts, entertainment, and culture by people of color in more than 80 categories.
