‘Good Morning America’ Previews ‘Disney100: The Exhibition’ at The Franklin Institute

Disney100: The Exhibition

“Disney100: The Exhibition” opens this weekend at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, and in a burst of Disney synergy, Ginger Zee from ABC’s “Good Morning America” gave an exclusive sneak peek of the exhibition on the show.

A First Look

One of the highlights of the sneak peek is seeing the new hologram made of Walt Disney himself. Disney used archival video and AI tools to create a full-size digital avatar that actually speaks in Walt’s voice,

In the video, Mickey Mouse is seen shooting a sparkling spell to conjure Walt Disney, who suddenly appears, smiling and dusting off his gray suit.

It’s also pretty cool seeing all the memorabilia on display from the 100 year history of Walt Disney Studios.

Take a look:

Media Day

The GMA visit was part of the exhibit’s media day where they officially cut the ribbon with Mickey and Minnie in attendance:

D23 also offered up some clips on its Tik Tok, including a complete video of Walt’s digital avatar:

The Walt Disney Archives said it took three tractor trailers to move the memorabilia from its Los Angeles storage to Philadelphia for the exhibit.

When the experience leaves Philadelphia for its next city, it will take 16 trucks to move the whole experience from site to site, including production materials, scenic elements, and special-effects apparatus used within the exhibition’s 10 galleries.

See the Exhibit

If you want to see “Disney100: The Exhibition” in person, it opens to the public at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on Saturday, February 18, 2023, and is currently set to run until August 27, 2023.

As mentioned above, the exhibit is made up of ten imaginatively themed galleries, all featuring moving stories, unique interactive installations, and exciting background information, which will take visitors on a journey through 100 years of The Walt Disney Company.

Ticket prices range from $25 adult/child 3-11 (for admission between 5-8pm Thursdays through Saturdays) to $45 adult/$41 child 3-11 (for admission between 9:30am – 5pm daily). Flex tickets valid for any time slot on the date indicated at the time of purchase are $61 at the box office.

For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit FI.edu/Disney100-the-Exhibition.

Future U.S. cities will include Chicago and Kansas City, MO, but no dates have been given yet.

“Disney100: The Exhibition” also has a second set of memorabilia that will be touring Europe, opening in Munich, Germany on April 18, 2023, after which it will move to London, England in Fall 2023.

Will you be making the trip to Philadelphia to see this amazing look at Disney history? I think I may have to find some time this summer to go.
