A moment many Walt Disney World Guests have been waiting for is upon us as Disney Parks has announced the Walt Disney World Railworld will reopen “this holiday season.”
The Details
In a surprise announcement, Disney Parks said, “Cast members and Imagineers are celebrating a moment of nostalgia at Magic Kingdom Park this week as we prepare to welcome guests aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad once again for the holiday season.”
Now, the holiday season is upon us, with Christmas this weekend, so the attraction could reopen to Guests any day now.
The Walt Disney World Railworld first opened with Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971, but was temporarily closed in December 2018 to build the upcoming “Tron Lightcycle Run” attraction in Tomorrowland.
While it was closed, Walt Disney World decided to give the family-friendly ride around the park an upgrade.
An Updated Attraction
In addition to track updates and maintenance, the creative minds at Walt Disney Imagineering also seized this moment to revisit the narration and introduce an all-new voice to bring guests into the beloved stories they encounter as they travel from one magical land to the next.
Of the voice, Disney says, “The creative voiceover process is as detailed as the train operation itself, and it all starts with our conductor.
For these meticulously restored steam trains, we know the scenic grand circle tour must be guided by a voice our guests can envision and resonate with. Someone who grew up on Main Street, U.S.A., dreaming of the day they’d be on the railroad. They’ve now achieved that dream, and they know everyone and everything at Magic Kingdom … an unofficial mayor of sorts.
This conductor is humble, genial, and knowledgeable, and he’s eager to help passengers of these iconic steam trains get to their destinations around the park he loves so dearly.”
They don’t mention any names, so I’m guessing the narrator isn’t a famous voice, but we’ll all get to hear it very soon.
This opening-day attraction returns with a completely refreshed track looping the park, one that will travel through a new tunnel underneath the walkway to the “Tron Lightcycle Run” attraction that offers views of the coaster tracks (as seen in the video below).
I hear the stations in the Main Street, U.S.A. and Frontierland sections were also refurbished and repainted with new colors.
