Three more actors have been confirmed for the cast of the upcoming Disney+ series, “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” joining star Amandla Stenberg, who was confirmed this summer.
The Casting
Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, and Emmy-winner Lee Jung-jae have joined the series in undisclosed roles.
Turner-Smith has garnered awards recognition with her starring turn in the movie “Queen & Slim,” and also recently starred as the title character in the British miniseries “Anne Boleyn.”
Jacinto starred in the sitcom “The Good Place” for its run, and most recently co-starred in the box office smash, “Top Gun: Maverick.”
Jung-jae recently became the first Asian actor to win the Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his break-out role in the Korean series “Squid Game.”
The Series
When “Star Wars: The Acolyte” was first announced during Disney Investor Day in 2020, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy first announced the series saying,”‘The Acolyte’ is a mystery thriller that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
The High Republic era of the Star Wars timeline ended about 50 years prior to the events of “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”
In “Star Wars” lore, an Acolyte is one who Force-sensitive, and trains under an experienced Sith Lord. It’s the Dark Side equivalent of a Jedi Padawan.
Not much else is known about the series, except Leslye Headland will serve as the series director, writer, exec producer and showrunner.
