“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” returns for season two in September, and Disney+ has released the first trailer for it.
Not only are the stakes bigger for the team, but there’s also a new lead on board for the second season.
Actor Josh Duhamel is joining the series as Coach Gavin Cole, the head of an elite summer hockey program in Los Angeles that takes the “best of the best” and makes them even better.
Duhamel takes over the adult male lead role from Emilio Estevez who who starred as the beloved hockey coach in all three “Mighty Ducks” films in the ’90s, then returned to reprise the character in the first season of the Disney+ series
In November 2021, during the pandemic, Estevez was let go from the show but the reasons vary according to who was talking.
Disney Television Studios’ ABC Signature, which produces the series, said Estevez wouldn’t confirm he would comply with the COVID vaccination requirement.
Estevez, however, said reasons included “a good old fashioned contract dispute” and “a myriad of creative differences” in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” season two stars Lauren Graham and Josh Duhamel with returning cast members Brady Noon, Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Taegen Burns, and DJ Watts. Naveen Paddock joins the cast as a series regular.
After winning back the Mighty Ducks team name in the first season, the squad-with-heart, and their coach Alex Morrow (Graham), take to the road to attend an intense summer hockey institute in California.
It is run by charming yet hardcore former NHL player, Coach Cole (Duhamel), and it’s a place for kids to get excellent at hockey, without school to get in the way.
Here is the first trailer for season two, which debuts on Disney+ on September 28, 2022:
