The transformation of EPCOT continues with new announcements for the core of the old Future World area, now known as World Celebration. The new name now now makes a lot more sense, since that is where a lot of the park’s expanded festival calendar will center its celebrations and events.

A new festival center called CommuniCore Hall will be constructed across CommuniCore Plaza from the recently opened Creations Shop. Together they will act as a central hub for EPCOT’s popular festivals throughout the year.

CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza, seen in the upper-right of this artist concept rendering, will bring EPCOT international festivals to the center of the park.

The gardens at the center of the park will evolve with the seasons. Centered around a giant EPCOT symbol, the parks will eaach have different feels and environments. There will be new places to rest and enjoy nearby festival offerings.

At night the gardens of World Celebration will take on a whole new life at night, where lighting immerses guests in an evening experience that will evolve through the year.

A new festival stage will join CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza, and will have the flexibility to host intimate musical performances that extend out into the nearby gardens, as well as large-scale concerts.

Returning to the festival center will be demonstration kitchens and presentation halls to showcase the great minds behind the menus that help make EPCOT’s festivals so popular.

The original concept art for this festival center was a 3 story high building overlooking the World Showcase Lagoon. That never made much sense to me from an aesthetic point to me as it would block the view of Spaceship Earth from across the lagoon. I like this concept much better.

Additionally, EPCOT will bring back Mickey and Friends meet and greet location as part of Communicore Hall facility. This was a popular destination for families who were looking for EPCOT themed encounters with Disney’s most popular characters, the Fab Five.

The transformation will continue over the next few years. But we’re definitely excited to watch it develop and then enjoy these new spaces in World Celebration at EPCOT.

Let us know what you think of the new concept art in the comments.

  1. It’s a complete admission of what a disaster harmonious is for the views in Epcot that it is not represented on the lake in the artwork.
