Marvel’s upcoming “Ironheart” series on Disney+ now has its director…or directors to be more precise.
Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes have been picked to direct the series which tells the story of Riri Williams, a teenage genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man, who is her mentor of sorts.
Bailey is co-creator of the Emmy-nominated “Brown Girls,” and was a director on the final two seasons of Netflix’s “Dear White People.”
Barnes helmed the upcoming Season 4 of “Atlanta” and episodes of “Mythic Quest” and “Blindspotting.”
In addition to announcing its directors, the series is also welcoming Ryan Coogler’s production company, Proximity, as one of its producers.
Coogler is the director for Marvel’s “Black Panther” movies, including the upcoming “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” due out this fall on November 11.
Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Chinaka Hodge will serve as executive producers alongside Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, and Zoie Nagelhout.
Screenwriter Hodge will also serve as head writer on “Ironheart,” which was first announced for the streamer on Disney+ Day 2021.
Marvel’s “Ironheart” stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, Lyric Ross as her best friend, and Anthony Ramos in a secret role.
There is no premiere date listed for series, but word is the Ironheart character will first appear in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which means a 2023 debut is likely for the show.
