Marvel Studios Drops First Full Trailer and New Poster for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Who needs a big football game, when you can just surprise drop a new trailer for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” along with a new poster, on the internet.

That seems to be the plan for Marvel Studios, which has graced us with the first official trailer for the upcoming sequel.

We got a teaser trailer last December, in tandem with the release of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which also features Doctor Strange, but this trailer is the first to delve into the story of the new film.

“Every night…I dream the same dream,” Doctor Strange intones as the trailer starts. “And then, the nightmare begins.”

Watch the trailer here:

I have to say the visuals are amazing…and a little creepy (I’m looking at you Doctor Strange’s face fracturing).

We see familiar characters such as Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Wong (Benedict Wong), Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), and Strange’s former friend Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor).

We also see a little more of new character America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) battling the tentacled sea-monster Gargantos.

One other new character I spotted is Rintrah, who is as the green Minotaur-like creature shown as the dark cloud rolls over the army in the village. In the comics, he is an intelligent being from the extradimensional planet of R’Vaal with magical potential. He is an ally of Doctor Strange.

And what did that mystery voice mean at the tribunal when they said, “We should tell him the truth.” What truth? And who is that voice? It sounds a lot like Sir Patrick Stewart, who played the elder Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies. If so, it could be a variant, since we are dealing with the multiverse, but it would open the door for the X-Men to start appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And if that is Professor X, then the group Doctor Strange is standing in front of could be the Illuminati.

In the comics, this was a secret organization comprised of several of the greatest minds in the universe who worked together to bring a level of law & order to the superhuman and alien community.

The group was assembled by Tony Stark (lending credence to the rumors of an appearance by an alternate universe version not played by Robert Downey, Jr.), and included: Professor X; Black Bolt, King of the Inhumans; Reed Richards, founding member of the Fantastic Four; and Namor the Sub-Mariner, King of Atlantis.

Having the Illuminati figure in the plot of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” would open the door for the Inhumans and the Fantastic Four to rejoin the MCU, and bring new stories for Black Bolt and Namor.

Not to mention, the group originally formed as a response to the Kree-Skrull war, which would tie into everything from the first “Captain Marvel” movie to the upcoming Disney+ series, “Secret Invasion.”

While you’re pondering all of that, here is the newest poster for the film:

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will hit U.S. theaters on May 6, 2022, when it will all be revealed.
