Disney+ Greenlights ‘The Santa Clause’ Series With Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell

The Santa Clause - Scott and Carol

Disney+ has announced a new limited-run series based on “The Santa Clause” franchise, and it will star Tim Allen in his role of Scott Calvin, with Elizabeth Mitchell reprising her role of his wife Carol, aka Mrs. Claus.

The streamer says this new series will show Scott Calvin on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever.

He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole.

With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

Allen won a People’s Choice Award for his portrayal of Calvin, Santa Claus’s proxy, in the 1994 film “The Santa Clause.”. He went on to play the role in two sequels, both hugely popular movies, 2002’s “The Santa Clause 2” and 2006’s “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.”

Mitchell didn’t join the franchise until the second movie, when Calvin must find a Mrs. Claus to continue being Santa. She joined Allen for the third movie, as well.

All three movies are currently on Disney+ if you need a refresher.

Allen, of course, is a Disney Legend (awarded in 1999), and has also worked with Disney on the “Toy Story” franchise, “Jungle2Jungle,” the “The Shaggy Dog” 2006 remake, and narrated the 2012 Disneynature documentary, “Chimpanzee.” He was also the star of the top-rated ABC series “Home Improvement.

In addition to The Santa Clause movies, Mitchell is best known for the ABC series “Lost,” “V,” and “Once Upon a Time.” She currently recurs on the second season of Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” and is set to star in the streamer’s upcoming vampire drama “First Kill.”

Production on “The Santa Clause” series is set to get underway in Los Angeles this spring, with Jack Burditt (“Last Man Standing,” “30 Rock”) on board as showrunner. No word on an air date for the series, but it’ll probably be a holiday offering.

The Disney Branded Television series is a production of 20th Television, which Disney inherited in the FOX merger.
