If you wondered where the story was going to go after the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Marvel has confirmed that actor Anthony Mackie has signed on to reprise his role of Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, in an upcoming movie.
The very final frames of the series offered a teaser card that simply said “Captain America and the Winter Soldier,” noting the transition of Wilson’s character from The Falcon to Captain America.
No additional casting has been announced for the film, simply titled Captain America 4 at this point, so it is not known if fellow series stars Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, or Daniel Brühl will appear with their characters.
The Juilliard-trained Mackie first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He then went on to play Sam Wilson in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Ant-Man, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and, of course, the Disney+ series.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series head writer Malcolm Spellman will be co-writing the script with fellow show scribe Dalan Musson. Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, will executive produce.
I love this news. Falcon and the Winter Soldier was great.
