James Gunn, the writer and director of both Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel and Disney says he’s confident that the release date for the third movie in the series won’t be delayed by the current global health emergency.
Gunn actually has two major projects on his plate right now. Before Guardians of the Galaxy can be filmed, he has to wrap up post-production work on DC comic’s Suicide Squad reboot for Warner Bros.. According to Gunn, the production had wrapped filming before the health emergency required everyone to switch to working from home. He’s also thankful that much of that work can be done from home thanks to some careful planning and foresight from the production team.
As for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Gunn wrote the script for it months ago and will be ready to go into production as soon as the current situation allows once his work on Suicide Squad is done.
“Right now the plans with Vol 3 are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus,” Gunn said on his Twitter account.
That may be true on Gunn’s end, but Disney has yet to assign a release date for the third Guardians of the Galaxy film.
If you look at the updated movie release schedule Disney published last week, GOTG Vol 3 isn’t on there. The earliest ‘untitled’ Marvel movie is October 7, 2022. Whatever the plans are for the movie’s release date, if Gunn and Disney know, they aren’t telling us yet.
