Pixar’s Onward arrives early on Digital today

With movie theaters shut down around the world, there was a lot of speculation among fans that Disney would try to rush its box office leading film “Onward” from Pixar Animation Studios onto digital platforms sooner rather than later.

And they were right. Disney fans in the US will be able to start our own quest to watch Pixar’s “Onward” starting tonight at 5pm PST / 8pm EST on digital platforms.

If you’re a subscriber to Disney+ you’ll have to wait just a bit longer for it to be processed and uploaded to the system. But look for an April 3, 2020 debut on the DisneyPlus streaming service.

“While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,” said Dan Scanlon (Director, “Onward”) and Kori Rae (Producer, “Onward”).

Pixar’s “Onward” premiered in theaters on March 6 and earned rave reviews from audiences, including a 95% Verified Audience Score on RottenTomatoes. Box Office totals were severely impacted by social distancing guidelines, but the movie has earned $62 million domestically with a worldwide total of more than $103M.

The story of “Onward” focuses on teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) who get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, embarking on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere.

Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior – aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer) – and heads off to find them.

The whole adventure takes place over the course of one magical day and the lessons learned are touching and universal, just like you expect from every Pixar film.

Are you excited to be able to watch Pixar’s Onward in the comfort of your own home a lot sooner than previously scheduled?
