EPCOT is going through some major changes and part of that will be an upgrade to the former Future World East building that has long been home to MouseGear, the main emporium of the park. While that building gets some TLC, MouseGear has downsized slightly and moved to the former Innoventions East building, behind the Electric Umbrella.
With a temporary location, Disney wasn’t going to go out all on the design or theming like we were used to in the old location, but there were some fun Disney touches along the walls. Shelves were relatively low and a lot of merchandise was on the walls. That meant you could stand in the middle of the store and look around to see what might interest you then head that way.
There are two checkout locations and a rear exit that puts you right near the Joffrey’s coffee hut in case you need a donut or caffeine hit after your souvenir hunting.
There are also already signs up in the center of EPCOT directing guests to the new MouseGear location, but I think Disney could do better by adding a little visual map to the new location on the doors of the former location. If you’re not familiar with ‘East’ vs ‘West’ layout of Future World, you might miss it.
No official word yet on how long this transformation of Future World East into the new World Discovery neighborhood will take, but it has definitely entered its next phase. Keep an eye out for Electric Umbrella to close for refurbishment next, although we hear that project has been pushed back.
We’re keeping an eye on EPCOT’s transformation and will bring further updates as we hear about them. Thanks for reading The Disney Blog.
