We traveled to EPCOT to check in on the progress of Future World’s transformation one last time for 2019. The core of Future World currently features walls everywhere as nearly every structure or pathway is planned for some updates during this transition into three distinct neighborhoods.
Guess what, even more walls are on the way. These will shut down most of the central plaza (where the pin trading station currently sits). So if you look at this video we shot on Sunday, you’ll see that a lot of new walkways are being added to Future World. These will send you from the Entrance Plaza to either the West or East side of Future World connecting back to a central pathway on the bridge over the two smaller lakes before the World Showcase.
That giant metal structure you see is all that remains of Innoventions West, which used to be home to the Character Spot, Club Cool, and at one time was the festival headquarters for the park. Eventually the north end of that building will become the entrance to a new Festival center that will elevate above the park.
On the East side, Mousegear and Electric Umbrella will also both close for some remodeling. Behind them work continues on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster and the Play Pavilion. The Space 220 restaurant has announced that it will open in early 2020.
Don’t forget that World Showcase is also getting a dusting of upgrades. First will be two new movies – a Beauty and the Beast sing-along in France and a new film in Canada, then Ratatouille will open. Work will begin soon on adding a new Mary Poppins attraction to the UK pavilion too. Next summer, the night will come alive with a new lagoon show – HarmonoiUS. We’re also pretty excited for the new barbecue restaurant coming to the America Pavilion and, of course, the Starbucks that will be near Canada heading back into Future World.
We will be back in January to check in on progress on the EPCOT Transformation. What are you looking forward to the most?
