It’s finally December which means we’re now getting close, very close to the release of the final chapter in the 9 episode Star Wars Skywalker saga. It was also an extended holiday weekend here in the US, which means we were treated to multiple new TV trailers for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
Spoilers are likely included in these trailers, so if you want to avoid them, go read about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge instead.
There is a lot to see in the two trailers, “Celebrate” and “Hold On.” From the First Order speeder bike, to Rey doing a Jedi Mind Trick on some storm troopers, and a couple other big moments, we’re left wondering what else is next:
Celebrate TV Spot
Hold On TV Spot
Ok. Now that you’ve watched them both, let’s talk about that big moment where General Leia Organa is seen holding a lightsaber, presumably Rey’s. I wonder if she gets to use it finally realizing the promise of Yoda’s “No there is another” all those movies ago. (Remember all of Carrie Fishers appearances in Skywalker are repurposed moments from moments that were filmed, but didn’t make it into the previous two films.)
In case you missed it, there’s also the ‘Legacy’ featurette that looks back over the entire saga’s 40 year legacy:
Lucasfilm and director J.J. Abrams join forces once again to take viewers on an epic journey to a galaxy far, far away with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” the riveting conclusion of the seminal Skywalker saga, where new legends will be born and the final battle for freedom is yet to come.
The film stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, with Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams.
I’m not ready for the saga to end. How about you? Ready or not “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” comes to theaters on December 20.
