Disney celebrates 3 million volunteer hours on Family Volunteer Day

This morning Disney Parks and the nonprofit organization, Points of Light, hosted Family Volunteer Day at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World. The event celebrated the power of volunteerism and honored the Aguirre family of McAllen, Texas, who were recently named the first ever Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year following a nationwide search conducted on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

The ceremony included a big reveal from Bob Chapek, chair of Disney Parks, that the families who have participated in Disney’s Family Volunteer Rewards program have donated more than three million hours of service.

Since the program launched in 2018, nearly 700,000 people have volunteered representing more than 8,500 nonprofits and schools. Of these, more than 1,700 organizations were introduced to family volunteerism because of the program.

Disney hopes this program inspires even more families to volunteer together. After the ceremony a volunteer village was set up where guests and cast members could volunteer in a program right at Disney Springs.
