Woody from Pixar’s Toy Story movies, but built out of food? That’s the amazing accomplishment by the Disneyland Resort Design & Engineering team. It took more than 7,000 food cans to built the sculpture, which is on display at the 2019 CANstruction Orange County design-build competition, benefiting the Orange County Food Bank at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.
Watch this timelapse video of its construction:
According to Disney, Woody is nine feet tall and is made out of canned jalapenos, green chiles, olives, rice, beans and baby food. It took the team of Disney VoluntEARS just over six hours to execute the build.
We also really liked the Millennium Falcon entry from a local architecture firm:
At the end of every event the can sculptures are broken down and the food is donated to local food shelters. Since its start in 1992, Canstruction has raised nearly 70 million pounds of food for local hunger relief organizations. If you haven’t heard of one in your area, why not organize an event?
This exhibit runs through September 30, 2019. If you’re in the Costa Mesa area go check it out and send us a link to your photos.
