Our thoughts are with the people of the island nation of The Bahamas and the ride out crew at Disney’s private island port of call Castaway Cay, near the northern island of Great Abaco. The northern islands of the archipelago are right in the cross hairs of Hurricane Dorian, which strengthened to a Category 5 storm this morning with winds of over 170 MPH.
The Disney Cruise Line fleet is flagged in The Bahamas and has close ties with many local organizations and schools, not to mention cast member families, who live there. There is also a small crew who lives on Castaway Cay and will be riding out the impact of Dorian in a storm bunker. We hope everyone stays safe.
About 400,000 people live in The Bahamas and Disney Cruise Line regularly stops at its capital city Nassau for a port of call. Disney also recently announced it will build a second private island port of call at Lighthouse Point on the island of Eleuthera.
Note: This is a developing story. We will update this post with news and links to efforts to help The Bahamas recover from Hurricane Dorian.
WHY do they need a “ride-out” crew? What are they going to do in a Cat 5 Storm?
