Bongo’s Cuban Cafe at Disney Springs to close

If you’re a fan of Bongo’s Cuban Cafe at Disney Springs, you’d better head over soon to enjoy your last meal. The Gloria Estefan owned restaurant will be closing around the end of August. The restaurant has been a popular dining spot and lounge since its opening in 1997 and is easily recognizable from the giant pineapple on the exterior.

According to a story in the Orlando Sentinel, the Estefans cite differences in vision with Disney for the restaurant’s future.

“They are growing in a different direction, and we are growing in a different direction. So we thought a fresh start is wanted,” the family said in a statement.

The Estefans will move their Orlando area culinary efforts over to the new Sunset Walk shopping and dining district at the recently opened Margaritaville resort on U.S. Highway 192 west of Interstate 4

No word yet from Disney on what might replace Bongo’s Cuban Cafe. It has a prime spot on the Westside of the very popular Disney Springs.

What are your memories of Bongo’s Cuban Cafe? For a while, I loved their walk-up window for great Cuban sandwiches at a decent price.
