The Mandalorian, Star Wars streaming service series, reveals one of its Bounty Hunter secrets

Thanks to a behind-the-scenes Instagram post from show runner Jon Favreau we now know who will be voicing one of the iconic Star Wars bounty hunters in the direct to streaming service Star Wars TV series – “The Mandalorian.”

It’s a voice that will be familiar to Marvel Cinematic Universe Fans. Taika Waititi not only directed “Thor: Ragnarok,” he provided the voice of Korg, the rock creature who befriended Thor. Waititi will also direct at least one episode of The Mandalorian.

Looking at the screen in front of Waititi as he records his lines, it appears he will voice IG-88 one of the assassin bounty hunter droids from the Star Wars galaxy.

There had been some hint that IG-88, the iconic, even infamous, droid bounty hunter from “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” would show up in The Madelorian, chiefly a Christmas post from Favreau to Instagram, but this appears to be pretty clear proof. Of course, it may not be IG-88 from the movie, but perhaps one of the other droids of that same model (There are at least models A, B, C, and D). I guess we’ll find out.

We’re also admiring the nice Iron Mandalorian helmet in the recording booth.

IG-88 only had a few brief moments on screen in ‘Empire,’ but as Lucasfilm and Star Wars fan are wont to do, a whole backstory was built for the character. Of course, a show about Mandalorian bounty hunter would feature other bounty hunters, but this is a rare cut and we’re excited for it.

Will you subscribe to Disney+ so you can watch The Mandalorian?
