At today’s Disney shareholder meeting CEO Bob Iger revealed that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland on May 31st and then at Disney World on August 29th.
The opening will only feature one of the two big attractions. Only Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run will open at the end of May. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance won’t open until later in the year. Iger promised a big grand opening for that event too.
It’s unclear if this same delayed schedule for the second attraction will be in place for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
To manage crowds, Disneyland will require a no-cost reservation to get into the land and on the attraction. Information on how to make a reservation is coming soon, but it will require you having a valid admission for dates between May 31st and June 23rd (although that period may be extended).
A reservation is not expected to be required at Walt Disney World. Disney must expect most of the pent up demand to be whittled down from the Disneyland opening.
That’s much earlier than revealed. But Disney wanted to get guest in to explore the land as early as possible, even if both attractions aren’t available to be experienced.
This is a developing story. Look for more updates later today.
