At the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi the core of the resistance had been pared down so far all its members fit on board the Millennium Falcon. So how are they going to come back and defeat Kylo Ren and the bad buys in the First Order in the next film? According to a report in Empire Magazine, they’ve had sometime to work on a plan as Episode IX will start about a year after The Last Jedi ends.
We’re now just under a year from the debut of Star Wars: Episode IX and rumors are growing in strength, but this one came from actor John Boyega (Finn). According to the article, “John Boyega has confirmed the film takes place roughly one year after the events of The Last Jedi.”
There wasn’t much more news, but a time differential makes sense. After losing their friends, the Resistance will need time to grief, regroup with distance members of the Resistance, and possibly deal with the loss of General Leia Organa (after the tragic real world death of actor Carrie Fisher).
We also know that Lando Calrissian will play a role in the film. Could he be the one to step into General Organa’s high heels, possibly aligning with Maz’s vast network of pirate friends?
Speaking of John Boyega, he was at Disneyland Paris this week for a Christmas vacation and was harassed by First Order stormtroopers even there!
No matter what the actual plot of Episode IX is, the next 12 months are going to be wild.
