Hours of hard work assembling some of the largest gingerbread houses you’ve ever seen looks like as much fun as Christmas morning when collapsed into a 1-minute time-lapse video. We’re happy to be able to share new footage of construction of the 2019 gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian Resort, which is the 20th anniversary of the original .
The life-size house is made from more than 10,000 pieces of gingerbread and required 560 hours to construct (400 hours to bake and 160 hours to decorate). The house is also a functional Bake Shop – the perfect place to pick up some sweet holiday treats.
As a bonus, stick around for a quick video of the construction of the Gingerbread Carousel in the Yacht Club lobby:
Did you notice the new location for the Gingerbread House this year. Rather than being tucked in a corner, it now has a prominent location on one end of the lobby. I like this position, but it may be short-lived.
It’s believed the Grand Floridian lobby will start a major refurbishment shortly after the holiday season ends. The project will include an update to the two main floors of the Grand Floridian Lobby. The end result will be a better guest flow for check-in and check-out and other guest services and add in some amenities that are expected in more modern luxury resorts. The restaurants in the main building are also believed to be getting a refresh.
Make sure to tour all the Disney resort Christmas decorations this holiday season. We’ll be heading out for an information group tour on the morning of December 1 with the fine folks from the MouseChat podcast.
