Pack up your light sabers, round up your fellow Jedi, and set a course for the next mega Star Wars fan event – Celebration 2019. While it may seem that the US Star Wars Celebration events only alternate between Anaheim and Orlando, this one will split the difference by landing in Chicago.
This will be the thirteenth Star Wars Celebration. The first three Celebration events were all in what we call ‘fly-over’ country today (Denver and Indianapolis). There have also been four international Celebration events. Although the first six events were numbered, that convention was dropped in favor of adding the city and year to the logo.
The venue will be McCormick Place from April 11 to 15, 2019. Tickets will go on sale June 5 starting at Noon CST at www.starwarscelebration.com. Choose from Multi-day, single-day and VIP passes.
Over the years each Celebration event has grown in scale offering more fun and unique experiences for Star Wars fans. In 2019 expect entertainment, celebrity appearances, stage shows, panels, interactive events, screenings, and, of course, Star Wars merchandise.
As for panels and exhibits, remember that both Disneyland and Walt Disney World are building a Star Wars-themed land, but there’s a good chance Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge won’t be ready to open by April 12. Star Wars Episode IX will be right around the corner as will a Star Wars TV show. Expect plenty of reveals and details about all of the above.
The location of McCormick Place is known for being very friendly to the sort of fans that show up at a Star Wars themed convention. It has very large halls and can easily absorb 10,000 visitors. April is also a fairly decent time to visit Chicago. It might be chilly, but it won’t be super cold and windy.
Tickets go fast once they’re on sale. Hotel rooms will start to sell out even before that. Start planning now if you’re thinking about going.
