The latest preview for Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time promises a story to remember. The movie, directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma), adapts the Newbery Medal winning book by Madeleine L’Engle, and stars Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Michael Pena, Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine. The science fiction story follows Meg’s mission to rescue her missing scientist father. Along the way she meets supernatural beings, creatures who are the personification of evil, and other beasts. While Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time is not yet shaking up the cinematic box office like Black Panther is, the movies have a few things in common. Both have an African-American director and both feature an African American lead. It turns out the space on Disney studios where Ryan Coogler edited Black Panther was write across the hall from where Ava DuVerney was piecing together A Wrinkle in Time. The two even took breaks together and compared notes about film making while walking the Disney studio lot.
The book has inspired generations of youth to pursue careers in science and many are hoping the movie will do the same. Some are even raising money to send young women to see the movie free.

I loved this book when I was younger and I’m really excited for this movie! I need to reread the book before I go see the movie!
