We’ve been eagerly anticipating the new soundtrack for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The great Alan Menken is back with new versions of his old favorites and a few new songs as well.
There were a few songs from the stage musical I had hoped would make it in. “Human Again” doesn’t appear to have made the cut. Looks like a song called “Days in the Sun” will be something of a replacement. I’m also disappointed that “Home,” one of my favorite songs performed by Belle on stage is not in the film. Instead there’s a new song in the story twice “How Does A Moment Last For Ever” performed by Kevin Kline then later Emma Watson.
Written by eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin”) and veteran lyricist and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (“The Lion King,” “Evita”), “How Does A Moment Last Forever” is an emotional ballad about holding onto life’s precious moments. Portions of the song are performed throughout the film and interpolated into the underscore. Celene Dion performs the full-length version during the film’s end credits.
Menken also provides the film score, with new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Ashman. Also featured are three new songs written by Menken and veteran lyricist and three time Oscar winner Tim Rice.
