The first Mickey Mouse Comic Strip was published on January 13, 1930. It was written by Walt Disney and drawn by Ub Iwerks (who also drew the first Mickey Mouse cartoon). Yesterday on the anniversary, Disney artist Floyd Normal recreated on YouTube live-stream the first Mickey Mouse comic strip using the very desk that Floyd Gottfredson used when he took over the comic strip a few months later.
Norman, an accomplished animator and cartoonist himself, answers viewer questions and shows you how to draw your own Mickey Mouse comic strip as part of the Disney Quick Draw video series.
For comparison, here is the original comic strip itself courtesy Disney and D23.
That was both educational and entertaining. Floyd Normal is a treasure. Still now sure I could draw Mickey Mouse as good as either Floyd has. How about you?
