New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer

New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer – Watch it and then join in the dissection in the comments

The new #StarWars Teaser Trailer starts with some pretty impressive visuals and then packs even more into it’s 2 minute length.

So without any further ado:

Breaking it down here. I’ll update as we learn more:

I love that Luke Skywalker starts off with some over-dialogue that implies there are new users of the Force out there. Gave me tingles down my spine.

We see a crashed Destroyer from the Empire on planet Jakku and landspeeder passes in front of it (Is this Rey on that speeder bike?).

A cloaked figure kneels by R2D2, we assume it’s Luke since he and R2 D2 are close, oh and the bionic hand thing.
image

We then see a young girl (possibly Rey) giving that cloaked figure a Lightsaber.

After Luke’s voice-over reveals that there is at least another with the force, we cut to a flock of X-Wings flying across the green planet. Presumably the same X-Wings from the first Teaser Trailer. And we see Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) enjoying himself in his X-Wing. Since this is the first person we see after Luke mentions the other person with the Force, are we to assume that Poe is the force sensitive one?

We then cut to the guy with the red lightsaber with the little jets of red on the side. Guess who he’s hanging out with? Yeah. Stormtroopers. I guess the Empire lives on, even 30 years after the defeat of Emperor Palpatine.

A cut and we’re back on Jakku with Rey, BB8, and Finn running away from an explosion. Probably caused by those Tie-Fighters attacking from above.

Back to the guy with the red lightsaber. We can now clearly see his mask. He, some stormtroopers, and others are involved some crowd control. Perhaps rounding up some prisoners.

image

The next cut is to a Frozen mountainside on another planet (Hoth?). The empire has a new logo, new looking stormtroopers, and if you look really close, a new figurehead there on the top of the platform. Also check out the new design of the Tie-Fighters to the left.

image

A few frames later we see Rey and some tie-fighters then we’re back in space inside a landing bay for Tie-Fighters. But they’re under attack and blowing up spectacularly. Watch out Stormtroopers. We then see Finn (John Boyega) in the same bay, dressed as a Storm Trooper with his helmet removed. He looks disillusioned.

image

And there’s the Star Destroyer in its current form. Very impressive and menacing. Glad to see we still have some space in this space opera. On approach appears to be a new version of the Emperor’s shuttle with some escorts.
image

I have no idea who this badass is. But he has a cape and a helmet that vaguely resembles Darth Vader… could he be back?

image

A couple quick cuts with BB8, Rey, Finn and yes, the Millennium Falcon. It appears to be flying by that crashed Destroyer we saw earlier.

And finally the payoff we’ve all been waiting for — Han Solo and Chewbacca inside the Millennium Falcon. Solo says “Chewie, we’re home” and a huge smile breaks out on every nerd’s face from Cruscant to Dagobah.

I like that we see a lot in this trailer. Where much of the first one was filled with black screen, this one is packed with new visuals.

  1. What ^^^ he said.

My 10yo started jumping while holding the birthday cake she just made!!! LOL!!

(Then said, “he looks kinda old” :p )

  2. I’m guessing that it’s Leia being handed a lightsaber.

Also, I think Luke is probably talking to Rey.

And I loved the new Empire logo and new stormtroopers.

  3. Another hint that Vader may be coming back in this one is that Luke says, “my father HAS it” rather than “had it”…

    1. I wouldn’t make too big a deal about Darth being alive because Luke says “my father has it”. That narration is lifted from Jedi, except for the “you have it” ending. Plus dead Jedi have some type of force projection, so they still have it.

      1. True, but I also wouldn’t put it past them to drop clues like this in the trailer.. personally, I think they should leave him dead, but you never know.
