The costumes of Disney’s Cinderella

The fairy-tale of Disney’s Cinderella promises to be a visual feast for the eyes, the two trailers already make that clear. The actors are chewing up the scenery, and the set design is very detailed, but for me, the real winner so far are the costumes.

Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine gets some of the best, while the two step-sisters are treated to their own visual candy. Lily James’ ball gown is a vision as well.

All of this is thanks to the talents of Academy Award winning costumer Sandy Powell. To make the production timeline, Powell and her staff started work on the costumes a full two years before principal photography began.

Disney just shared these costume sketches used in pre-production for Cinderella.

If you don’t mind spoilers, you can head over to Vanity Fair for a piece on how Powell designed Cinderella’s wedding gown and her ball gown (not really a spoiler if you’ve seen any marketing for the movie). Like the parts of the film I’ve seen so far, it’s gorgeous.
