Congratulations to the team at Disney theatrical, for the second year in a row Disney’s “The Lion King” musical ruled the pridelands of Broadway as the top earning musical.
Disney actually had two of the top 5 spots with “Aladdin” taking 5th place on the list. Pretty good for a show that only opened in March.
From it home at the Minskoff Theatre, “The Lion King” rang up approximately $100.2 million in ticket sales. The most ever for the 17 year Broadway run of the show.
The rest of the top five were: “Wicked,” “The Book of Mormon,” Kinky Boots,” and “Aladdin.” For all of Broadway, 2014 was a great year with an increase of 13% in sales over 2013 for a total earnings of $1.36 Billion.
