Disney Mixology School: Krakatoa Punch

Congratulations, you made it to Friday. If you’re like me, and over the age of 21, you can probably use some adult beverages to provide the perfect end to the week. Good news, Disney has decided to open up the secrets of their Mixologists and share the ‘recipes’ for some of their most popular drinks.

Up first is the Krakatoa Punch from Trader Sam’s at the Disneyland Resort. To Prepare add:

-1oz dark rum
-1oz spiced rum
-3oz Gorilla Grog
-0.5oz almond syrup
-0.25oz grenadine

Then shake with ice. Serve with a tiki stick or umbrella for that authentic tiki bar feel. Disney adds one of those glow cubes for that extra magic.

So what is Gorilla Grog, I hear your cry? It’s a non-alcoholic drink served at Trader Sam’s and it’s used as a base for a lot of their tropical drinks. No one knows exactly what’s in it, and Sam’s not sharing, but reports are that it contains a mix of tropical fruit juices (Passion fruit, guava, pineapple, orange, and lemon mixed with a sweet syrup called Falernum that has flavors of almond, ginger and cloves in it.) I’m sure you can mix up something close on your own at home… if not, pineapple, orange juice, and some lemon with a simple syrup infused with cinnamon, ginger, and almond extract will probably do the trick. Or you might find Falernum online.

Do you have a favorite adult beverage at Disney? Or even just a favorite bar to wind down in at the end of a long day?

For me my favorite bar is Heathman’s at the Grand Californian. Sadly, I’ve been living on the other coast for a decade or so, so I’ll either have to wait until Trader Sam’s is open out here, or enjoy the view from California Grill, the prices are highway robbery, but you can’t beat the view around sunset or during the Fireworks.
