Best Resort Room Options for Families of Five or More.

Disney's Art of Animation Suites sleep six comfortably.

Disney’s Art of Animation Suites sleep six comfortably.

A family of five isn’t a “big” family by any means, but it is by Disney standards, where most rooms sleep four people.  Because of this, many families mistakenly believe they won’t fit in a standard room, much less in a value room, when in reality there are some attractive options for “larger” families.  Even better, these options don’t have to break the bank.

Value Resort Options:

Disney value resorts are the gold standard for guests looking to economize on vacation.  The good news is that a value room gives you all the benefits of staying on property at a great price. The no-so-good news is that a standard room in a value resort can be a tight fit, with just two double beds and a small bathroom, and since these rooms only sleep four (plus one child under the age of three), they’re unsuitable for larger families. Fortunately, almost all Disney resort rooms connect, so you can book two rooms for up to eight people. Depending on the ages of the children, parents can have one room to themselves and the kids can share the other room, with the door open between them.  This is by far the most economical option for most larger families.  When you make your reservation, ask to book your rooms under one reservation number and one deposit.Read More »Best Resort Room Options for Families of Five or More.

New trailer for Disney’s Planes

Like Pixar’s Toy Story 2, it started out as a direct to video movie, but unlike other films in the Cars universe, this one is animated by Disneytoon Studios. They’ve done a great job with the Tinkerbell movies, so I was not surprised to see… Read More »New trailer for Disney’s Planes

Monster’s University Gets Solid Early Feedback

Mike on Campus

A group of Disney World fans were invited to watch Monsters University over the weekend. The feedback for Pixar’s next film was general positive, leaning toward effusive. It had the heart of the original, a lot more laughs, and something of a “Revenge of the Nerds” vibe too. Can’t give anything else away without spoilers.

Meanwhile Disney Marketing has been ramping up the promotions for Mike and Sulley. There’s a whole Disney Parks summer promotion and a slew of new trailers and clips online:

Small Explosion in Disneyland’s Toontown Causes Evacuation, but no Injuries

Update 5/29: Anaheim Police have arrested a Disneyland outdoor vending cast member for yesterday’s blast. Something I wondered about below. Police say 22-year old subjects claims this was an isolated incident with ‘unanticipated impact’. You could say that again The Anaheim Police Department has confirmed… Read More »Small Explosion in Disneyland’s Toontown Causes Evacuation, but no Injuries

Another 24 Hour day at the Magic Kingdom Begins

image

Haven’t we been here before? Last year on leap day both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom stayed open for a magical 24 hours to celebrate one more Disney day! We were there and had a blast.

At the time, I recall thinking there was no particular reason to do that again, but here I am at the Magic Kingdom yet again ready to do it all over again. Am I crazy? Probably. But it’s crazy in a good way, I think.

The official 24 hour day kicked off with an 6AM ceremony. The theme is Monstrous Summer All-Nighter, so of course Mike and Sulley from Monsters University were there.

Mickey and Minnie were even up early to welcome some press to the park.
