You know you’re a diehard Disney fan when you sit through the entirety of the Disney parks Christmas parade on ABC. I managed it this year, but only with some fast forwarding through the musical performances from bands I’ve never heard of. The TV version of the parade always been an ad for the parks, but this year it seemed even more blatant than ever. However, I can tell you with certainty that the Newsies section of the show was one of the few highlights and an example of how synergy should work.
Thankfully you don’t have to watch the whole parade, Disney’s uploaded just the Newsies section so you can watch it here:
I’m still a bit surprised that Disney hasn’t figured out a way to capitalize on the Newsies craze at its themeparks. A cut-down, highlights version of the musical would be a hit at either DCA or DHS and whet the appetite for a trip to Broadway to see the complete production.
This was great, but I wish they would have done it on DCA’s Buena Vista Street instead.
