The life of a Disneyland Mermaid

Matt, who also writes an excellent blog cataloging Vintage Alice in Wonderland merchandise, has a new post that details the life of a Disneyland Mermaid for the summer of 1966. After surviving an audition where Edie, our erstwhile Mermaid, had to fake her knowledge of swimming, she started her work in the Submarine Lagoon:

We were taught to slither into the Submarine Lagoon from a hidden chamber and dolphin kick underwater to magically surface in the center of the pool. There we sat on a rock and untangled our hair with immense blue and yellow plastic combs, and plucked ersatz lyres. We worked in shifts of two, and traded off hourly.

Great photos and more stories over at Random Neat Stuff.
