Worried about the carbon footprint of your Disney habit? Now you can see a Disney film and help save the earth at the same time. Disneynature, the first new film label to be introduced by Disney in 60 years, will celebrate its premiere film, “EARTH,” being released nationally on April 22, Earth Day, by planting a tree in honor of every moviegoer who sees the film in its opening week.
I hope their green thumb is better than mine. Everything I plant in my backyard dies.
“EARTH is a spectacular film from the world’s most acclaimed nature filmmakers, and we couldn’t think of a better way to launch the new Disneynature banner, and to celebrate the spirit of the film and Earth Day at the same time,” said Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “The film gives moviegoers an entertaining and unprecedented view of our planet, with some of the most astonishing imagery and exciting natural drama ever presented on the big screen.”
Jean-François Camilleri, executive vice president and general manger of Disneynature, said: “The public is looking for films like EARTH that are entertaining, educational, show nature’s beauty and are environmentally conscious. What better way to celebrate the opening of this epic film than by planting trees on behalf of our moviegoers!”
Disney’s goal is to ensure that it plants trees in areas that conservationists have identified as important hot spots of biodiversity. Disney will oversee the planting of the trees in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, which is considered the most endangered rain forest in the world. Today, only 7 percent of the Atlantic Forest remains. Disney is committed to ensuring the trees are planted and cared for to provide the greatest long term benefit for the planet.
Narrated by James Earl Jones (Darth Vader FTW), EARTH tells the remarkable story of three animal families and their amazing journeys across the planet we call home. EARTH combines rare action, unimaginable scale and impossible locations by capturing the most intimate moments of our planet’s wildest and most elusive creatures. Directors Alastair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, the acclaimed creative team behind the Emmy Award-winning “Planet Earth,” combine forces again to bring this epic adventure to the big screen.
Tickets are now on sale for opening weekend through the film’s website at www.disney.com/earth. View the trailer for EARTH at Apple.com

Nice post. Great idea, great for the planet, great for Disney and the globe. There seems to be some questions surrounding how Disney will prove they planted trees on behalf of ticket purchasers – would you mind explaining it –
Thanks.

I purchased ticket for my family but no one ask us any question about who we were. How do they plant trees in our name if they don’t know who purchsed tickets and like Jan Simpson how do we know they planted the trees?
