LaughingPlace.com confirms Star Tours 2.0 (and Soarin’!)

LaughingPlace.com, which is known for being conservative when announcing rumor confirmations, has just confirmed that Star Tours 2.0 will be coming to Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, other parks with the attraction have not yet signed on. I take this as a near certainty now that we’ve had Anthony Daniels confirm he cut some voice tracks and a Lucasfilm head artist confirm he was assigned to the project.

The other attraction confirmed to be changing is the long rumored new film for Soarin’. As California Adventure’s theme changes (and eventually the park’s name changes too) it won’t make sense for a California themed movie to be there… and it never really made sense for it to be at The Land pavilion in Epcot either. The new film is likely to have a ‘world’ theme. With that in mind what are some of the places in the world you’d like to see but are very unlikely to ever get a chance to hang glide over.

Both new films are expected to debut sometime in late 2009.

  1. El Rocketeer says:

That’s pretty rad. Despite being a huge Star Wars fan, I’m actually looking forward to the Soarin’ revamp the most. Great Wall of China, anyone?

  2. Phil says:

They absolutely have to hang glide over the pyramids of Egypt, Victoria Falls in Southern Africa, Angel Falls in Venezuela, Antarctica, and Mount Everest. I doubt I’ll ever get to any of those places.

  3. Mark Baker says:

I’m one of those people who doesn’t want to lose what they’ve already got. But I am looking forward to something new as well. I wish there were some way we could do both.

  4. Kurt Miller says:

Those South American falls that were shown in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

They should leave the original on one side and put the new one on the other side, at least for a few years, IMHO. Don’t change the fantastic theme!

  5. Ken Pellman says:

Since Soarin’ is in The Land at Epcot, it should take guests to notable natural landmarks and places… the driest areas of Chile, the South Pole, over a lava flow in Hawaii… you get the idea. Not sure how that would fit in with plans for DCA, but then I don’t know that the name/theme of that place will be when they are all done.

I’ve heard the concept for Star Tours 2.0 and it sounds great. It is about time.

  6. TheYeti says:

But I like Soarin’ Over California! I agree with Kurt. They should have two films at DCA. The California film never made any sense at Epcot.

  7. Chris Wade says:

I think Soarin’ Over California should remain the same in one theater at each park, then you could choose which “Adventure” you want.

Well, if they are taking suggestions for Soarin’ my vote is Machu Picchu

  10. Michelle says:

It’s about time they revamped Star Tours, imho. But it’d be cool to have the old film in at least one of the theaters so guests have a choice.

As for Soarin’, I like the idea of a 7 Wonders of the World film, maybe incorporating the earlier mentioned idea of showing the different areas of the earth, such as the deserts, arctic poles, rainforests, etc. This would work especially well at Epcot, where it would tie into the World Showcase.
