John Parr Miller: Animator/Illustrator

J.P. Miller passed away recently. I’m sorry I missed any mention of it until now. Miller was among Walt’s earliest animators and eventually became an illustrator of beloved children’s books. Next time you visit your collection of Little Golden Books don’t be suprised if John Parr Miller was the illustrator for many of your favorites.… Read More »John Parr Miller: Animator/Illustrator

Disney and Copyright, a little known fight

Reason magazine has a story on a decades old copyright battle between Disney and a 60s counterculture activist. It’s an interesting look at how America’s values have changed in the ensuing time. So much so that the Supreme Court rules different today than it did back then. The article written by Bob Levin, an attorney… Read More »Disney and Copyright, a little known fight

Disneyworld Lowers Prices, Complicates Matters.

While some headlines out there are screaming about Disney World’s $5 price increase for a one day ticket, the real story is the unique customization that is available now. With the new a la carte pricing structure they call "Magic Your Way" Disney World has made the extended stay much more affordable. LaughingPlace.com has an easy to follow chart with the new pricing options. Everything goes into effect on Jan. 2, 2005.

The new system isn’t really much more complicated than the old system. It will require more advanced planning on the vacationer’s part. So talking with a travel expert, visiting an online Disney fan site, or DisneyWorld.com becomes more important. It is possible that someone won’t understand the system fully and be suprised by the extra charges for park hopping, non-expiration date, etc. I’m sure Disney is counting on a little of this to pad their profit margin.

Disneyland: The Nickel Tour Update

Update: Looks like Amazon is out of stock on this item. I’ll try to find out if there is a supply of these books out there anywhere. The untimely death of David Mumford, one half of the authorship and part owner of Camphor Tree Publishing, has made these books quite scarce. It might be a… Read More »Disneyland: The Nickel Tour Update

Disney Gift Suggestions: Nickel Tour

Mikey over at WebMikey reviews one of my favorite Disney books, Disneyland The Nickel Tour. If you have a friend or family member who is at all interested in Disneyland, its history, and the stories behind the magic, then Disneyland: The Nickel Tour would make a magical gift this holiday season. Written by Imagineers who… Read More »Disney Gift Suggestions: Nickel Tour

Disney expands Comic Book Holdings

In a deal it hopes will produce a trove of new properties to exploit across various media, Walt Disney Co. has bought the assets of CrossGen Entertainment, a comic book publisher whose fantasy and sci-fi titles include "Abadazad," "Mystic" and "Route 666." This is another sign of Disney coming to accept the shift in reading… Read More »Disney expands Comic Book Holdings

Incredible Comic Book Ethics?

I wondered: could it be that Pixar had found the Holy Grail that Marvel and DC and the comics industry have (half-heartedly and ineffectively) been seeking for years: creating superheroes that would bring in a new audience of little kids? Filmforce columnist Peter Sanderson looks at Pixar’s The Incredibles from the point of view of… Read More »Incredible Comic Book Ethics?
