During the 2024 annual shareholder meeting on April 3rd, Disney revealed a new image from the upcoming “Moana 2” sequel, along with a bit more about the plot.
The Details
Confirmed to feature the voices of Auli‘i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, “Moana 2” was first announced during the February 2024 Earnings Call, and now we know a little more about the plot:
In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new animated musical, it’s been three years since her first voyage, and Moana is on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui.
Joined by Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
The Image
Disney also shared this key art featuring Moana herself from the film:
In the first film, Moana’s age is given as 16, which would now put her at 19, more of an adult, and that is reflected on how they’ve drawn her face.
She also appears to be more self-assured and self-confident from the stance of her body and the expression on her face.
When to Watch
“Moana 2” opens in theaters November 27, 2024. Until then, you can enjoy “Moana” in both original and sing-along versions on Disney+.
