Lucasfilm has released a first look trailer for the new ‘Star Wars” series “The Acolyte,” along with two posters, and a reveal of when the series will debut on Disney+.
The Details
The series was first announced as happening with a single Tweet from San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, and LucasFilm confirmed the casting of actor Amandla Stenberg for a lead role in the series.
The rest of the cast was revealed during Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, and now we have a release date.
“The Acolyte” will cause a disturbance in The Force this summer when it debuts on Disney+ on June 4, 2024 with the first two episodes.
About The Acolyte
The series is about an investigation into a shocking crime spree which pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.
According to “Star Wars” lore, an acolyte is one who trains under an experienced Sith Lord. It’s the Dark Side of The Force equivalent of a Jedi Padawan.
Created by Lesley Headland (Russian Doll), “The Acolyte” is set during the High Republic era of the “Star Wars” timeline, which ended about 50 years prior to the events of “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”
This puts the series in the extremely early days of the “Star Wars” Universe, when the Galactic Republic was said to be at its height. It was also a golden age for the Jedi, who were significantly more active throughout the galaxy.
The cast includes Amandla Stenberg (“The Hate U Give”), Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”), Manny Jacinto (“The Good Place”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim”), Dafne Keen (“His Dark Materials”), Rebecca Henderson (“Inventing Anna”), Charlie Barnett (“Russian Doll”), Dean-Charles Chapman (“1917”) and Carrie-Anne Moss (“The Matrix”). Joonas Suotamo guests as a Wookiee Jedi named Kelnacca.
Headland serves as showrunner and executive produces with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing.
Headland also directed the premiere episodes (episodes 101 and 102). Directors Kogonada (episodes 103 and 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (episodes 104 and 105), and Hanelle Culpepper (episodes 106 and 108) round out the directing duties on the series.
Michael Abels, known for his work on “Get Out” and “Us,” scored “The Acolyte.”
The Trailer
The trailer opens with younglings in training, listening to the words of Lee Jung-jae’s Master Sol. “Close your eyes. Your eyes can deceive you,” he tells them. “We must not trust them.”
“This isn’t about good or bad. This is about power…and who is allowed to use it.”
