Two-time Emmy-winning actor Ty Burrell is returning to ABC for a new comedy series called “Forgive and Forget,” that has been ordered to pilot.
The Details
The multi-camera show, which comes from Disney’s 20th Television, follows perennial life of the party Hank (Burrell), who after an unexpected diagnosis, decides to reconnect with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together.
Eugene Garcia-Cross (“The Santa Clauses“) will write with Robin Shorr (“Diary of a Future President“) as showrunner. Both also worked together on Peacock’s “Punky Brewster,” a continuation of the iconic 1980s sitcom.
Garcia-Cross says “Forgive and Forget” is inspired by his experiences of caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s, and the show hopes to destigmatize a disease afflicting millions.
The duo will also executive produce alongside Ty Burrell via his Desert Whale Productions banner.
A pilot order doesn’t mean it will end up on the schedule, but it means the network liked it enough to want to see an actual episode filmed.
Burrell is best known to Disney audiences as from his Emmy-winning role of Phil Dunphy from the 11-season run of ABC/20th Television’s “Modern Family,” which is currently available to stream on Hulu. His other credits include Pixar’s “Finding Dory,” and “Muppets Most Wanted.”
