As part of the transformation of Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort, it’s been announced that Tiendita by Chef Carlos Gaytán will join the list of new restaurants that will soon open.
The Details
Tiendita is the third and final concept from Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán, and it will join his previously announced restaurants Paseo and Céntrico that will also be opening at the Downtown Disney District.
Patina Group, which will manage the restaurant, says Tiendita will offer Chef Gaytán’s heritage flavors on the go, with quick service Mexican street-food staples.
The menu will include elements of the elevated dishes that can be expected at Paseo and Céntrico, but will also serve as a convenient and family-friendly option where guests can still enjoy a memorable experience.
Menu highlights will include esquites, a beloved street food made with roasted corn, and tacos al pastor, which includes thin slices of flavorful pork, pineapple juices, and is topped with roasted onions, cilantro and salsa.
For dessert, Tiendita will offer creamy arroz con leche featuring aromatic flavors of cinnamon and vanilla and topped with raisins, an elevated twist on this nostalgic treat from Chef Gaytán’s childhood.
“Tiendita is the perfect accompaniment to the previously announced Paseo and Céntrico by Chef Carlos Gaytán. This final piece completes his vision for bringing his Mexican influence and vibrant flavors to Orange County and the Downtown Disney District,” said Frank Moreno, vice president of operations at Patina Restaurant Group.
“Mexican culture embraces spending time with family and friends sharing a delicious meal together. Tiendita will offer guests an expedited dining choice, while the experience remains true to this ethos and authenticity.”
Chef Carlos Gaytán made a name for himself in the food world after appearing as a contestant on “Top Chef” in 2013, placing third. His Chicago restaurant Mexique, which shuttered in 2019 after a 10-year run, won consecutive Michelin nods in 2013 and 2014, making Gaytán the first Mexican-born chef with a Michelin-starred restaurant.
Openings
Paseo, Céntrico, and Tiendita are all scheduled to open in spring 2024. When we hear of exact dates, we’ll let you know so you can begin making reservations.
The three join other new dining options coming to Disneyland’s shopping and dining area, like Parkside Market, a food hall that will be home to Seoul Sister, Sip & Sonder, and GG’s Chicken Shop; Porto’s Bakery & Cafe; and the world-renowned Chinese restaurant Din Tai Fung.
