Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Gillian Anderson has signed on to join the cast of “Tron: Ares,” the third film in the “Tron” film franchise.
The Details
The announcement comes less than a week after director Joachim Ronning announced the film had officially started shooting.
Details of Anderson’s character have not been revealed, but neither have the characters of most of the rest of the already announced cast including Evan Peters (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”), Greta Lee (“The Morning Show”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim”), Sarah Desjardins (“Yellowjackets”), and Cameron Monaghan (“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor,” “Gotham”).
The actress has had a long career, making a name for herself in series such as “X-Files,” “Hannibal,” and “The Crown,” so I can’t wait to see who she plays in this story.
Disney also hasn’t revealed the plot of the film, but has confirmed the pic will follow Jared Leto as Ares, a fictional character who crosses over from the world of videogames to planet Earth.
Ronning, who has also directed films like “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” and co-directed “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” has also said “Tron: Ares” is “a movie subsequently about AI and what it means, and takes, to be human.”
The screenplay was penned by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, while the story is by original “Tron” director Steven Lisberger and Bonnie MacBird.
Leto also serves as a producer on the project with Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook.
No release date has been set for the movie, but the earliest it would make the schedule is 2025.
