The long running Big River Grille and Brewing Works at Disney’s BoardWalk at Walt Disney World will serve its last brew this weekend.
The Details
Big River Grille and Brewing Works is officially closing, with its last day of operation being this Sunday, January 21, 2024.
Big River Grille has been open on the Boardwalk for almost twenty years, serving up a menu of pub grub like nachos, Beer Cheese Soup, salads, burgers, and even a rib-eye steak.
It also had an onsite brewmaster who crafted several specialty beers that guests could observe being made through floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Guests 21 years of age and over could enjoy favorites like the Sweet Magnolia American Brown Ale and the Big River I.P.A. The Rocket Red Ale was my favorite.
No reason has been given for the sudden closure, but the chain closed its other location in downtown Chattanooga, TN in October 2023 after 30 years. Once the Boardwalk location closes this weekend, the brand will be no more. Employees were notified via a letter that has been circulating online.
If you want to visit one last time this weekend, hours are 11am to 11pm Friday and Saturday, and 10am to 10pm Sunday. For dining reservations, please call Big River Grille & Brewing Works directly at (407) 751-1544.
What’s Next?
The Boardwalk at the resort is currently undergoing a huge renovation with recent openings like the Boardwalk Deli, and the soon-to-open Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs and The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers.
Nothing has been announced yet for the space that housed Big River Grille, but in an acknowledgement of the closing, Disney said that starting Monday, January 22, food trucks would be available for lunch dining options in that area. No word for how long or what the food trucks are.
Are you sad Big River Grille is closing? Would you like to see another restaurant replace it, and if so, what type of cuisine? Let us know in the comments.
Very glad to see this place go. Was always very mediocre at best. This is a prime location and I am looking forward to seeing what Will move in here. Hopefully something from the Patina Group!
