The Animation Courtyard theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been dark for a while, but today, Walt Disney World announced a new version of “The Little Mermaid” will be coming to the park in 2024.
The Details
According to Disney, “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” a fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic film “The Little Mermaid,” will debut in the newly refreshed Animation Courtyard theater in fall 2024.
This new show replaces the “Voyage of the Little Mermaid,” which opened in the theater on January 7, 1992. It was a condensed retelling of the movie using a mix of live actors and puppets.
It closed with Walt Disney World in March 2020, due to the pandemic, but it was an attraction that never reopened, and the theaater has been dark since then.
The Show
Not much is known about “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” though Disney says it “will have guests flipping their fins to musical numbers inspired by the film including ‘Part of Your World,’ ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls,’ and more.”
When it opens, the show will reportedly feature stunning new set pieces, cutting-edge effects, and a bold new design that captures Ariel’s imagination and emotions through her unique view of the world around her.
Disney also shared an artist rendering of the show’s planned scene for the classic song, “Kiss the Girl.”
