Guests at Walt Disney World will once again be able to sail across Bay Lake between three Disney resorts using the complimentary “Blue Route” water transportation starting today.
The Details
Water taxis are part of Walt Disney World’s complimentary transportation fleet to get guests around, and starting today, the “Blue Route” water taxi transportation returns to service guests.
On the route, guests will be able to sail across Bay Lake between Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground for afternoon and evening voyages. It does not go to Magic Kingdom, just these three resorts.
Look for the boat marked with its signature blue flag at each resort’s boat dock.
The Route
If you look closely, the full loop of the route ususally passes by the long-closed Discovery Island, a former wildlife and bird sanctuary that Disney operated on the island in the middle of Bay Lake. It operated between 1974 and 1999, and was recognized as a zoological park.
Pre-pandemic, one of my favorite things to do was grab a meal at one of the resorts, then sail the full loop afterwards. Very relaxing with beautiful scenery.
Today also marks the first time that this route has been in service since the parks closed in March of 2020 due to the pandemic.
