Disneyland has announced that its iconic Space Mountain attraction will be closing in September 2023 for refurbishment, and here’s what you need to know.
The Details
Disneyland has set a closure date of September 18, 2023, for this refurbishment, so if you want to ride the coaster before the closure, you have until September 17th.
As of now, there is no reopen date set, except for a vague “fall 2023.” This means Space Mountain should reopen in time for the holidays. When we hear of an exact date, we’ll let you know.
Disney hasn’t given any indication that this refurbishment closure is for anything other than general maintenance of the attraction.
It’s expected that the light problem that popped up last month in the tunnel at the beginning of the coaster will also be addressed.
The Attraction
Space Mountain first opened at Disneyland on May 27, 1977, and it was the second version of the coaster opened by Disney. The first version opened at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in 1975.
The last major update done to the attraction occurred in 2018, when the queue line was extended into the upper level of the former Starcade, however in May of this year, the annual “Star Wars”-themed “Hyperspace Mountain” overlay was added to the ride for a limited time.
