Last night’s “Haunted Mansion” movie premiere took place at Disney California Adventure as planned, but while it didn’t have human movie stars, there were plenty of Disney stars in attendance.
The Details
The “Haunted Mansion” world premiere at Disneyland Resort was the first major movie premiere affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike, and as such, none of the actors could attend.
The red carpet was instead populated by Disney stars such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Cruella, the Evil Queen, Maleficent, and the Bride, plus Haunted Mansion cast members from around the world, as well as Disney Legend Bob Gurr and Imagineer Tania Norris.
The film’s director Justin Simien attended the premiere, and speaking before the audience, said, “Obviously we’re here at a weird time in the industry, there’s some folks that aren’t here.”
“…of course I’m referring to the multiple walkouts on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” he added jokingly.
Writer Katie Dippold also couldn’t attend due to the WGA strike, but Simien paid homage to her saying, ‘Trust me, if you’re a nerd and if you love this ride, that is the nerd you want in the room.”
The 2023 film directed by Simien is based on a screenplay by Dippold that is inspired by the Disney attraction.
The cast of the film includes Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Chase W. Dillon, Tiffany Haddish, Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota, Jared Leto as Hatbox Ghost. Hasan Minhaj, Winona Ryder, and Dan Levy also make an appearance in the film.
“Haunted Mansion” opens in theaters on July 28.
The Premiere
As with any movie premiere, there were plenty of photos and videos documenting the spooky red carpet in front of the attraction, before everyone moved to the actual movie premiere which took place at the Hyperion Theater (be patient, it may take a bit to load):
