All Hallows’ Eve will become a night of frolic again, when all witches run amuck, amuck, amuck, as Disney has confirmed that “Hocus Pocus 3” is happening!
The Details
At the “Hocus Pocus 2” premiere last year, executive producer Adam Shankman hinted to the press that there were more stories to be told.
And now, Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, confirmed in an new interview with The New York Times that “Hocus Pocus 3” is in development.
It’s still a long way from becoming reality, especially with the current writer’s strike, so it would be at least late 2024 before it would air, most likely on Disney+, where “Hocus Pocus 2” debuted.
And it’s not clear if there have been any discussions with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy to return as the Sanderson Sisters, though Midler said in an interview last year she’d be interested.
“If there was a third one, of course I’d sign on, but I don’t know how. I can’t imagine what the story would be, but I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary and our relationship. It’s good for women. We stick together through hell and high water, but we do cause mayhem, and not many women cause that much mayhem.”
But at least we have confirmation that “Hocus Pocus 3” is in the works.
The Films
The original film was released in 1993. Directed by Kenny Ortega, it wasn’t originally a box office success, but created a strong following of fans through frequent airings on Disney Channel and Freeform as part of their Halloween line-ups.
Now known as a cult classic, “Hocus Pocus” became a franchise with a book sequel, a show in Walt Disney World’s “Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party,” and in 2022, a film sequel debuted on Disney+, which set a record for an opening weekend by a movie on a streamer with 2.7 billion minutes viewed.
