“Avatar: The Way of Water,” James Cameron’s long awaited “Avatar” sequel, has finally set a streaming debut date on Disney+, and we have all the details.
How to Watch
After a historic, months-long theatrical run during which it became the third highest-grossing film of all time worldwide, with nearly $2.32 billion at the box office, “Avatar: The Way of Water” will debut on Disney+ worldwide on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
Disney+ says subscribers will also have access to bonus content featuring filmmakers, cast, and crew exploring the world of Pandora and the film’s unique production process.
It sounds similar to the bonus materials that came with the digital release of the film, but Disney+ hasn’t said if they’re the same.
Due to previous deals with 20th Century before it was bought by Disney, “Avatar: The Way of Water” will also debut June 7 on the new MAX streaming service that was formed as a result of the recent HBO Max and Discovery+ merger.
Of course if you watch it on Disney+, you can do a double feature with the original film.
The Film
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Directed by James Cameron, and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the Lightstorm Entertainment Production stars Sam Worthington (as Jake), Zoe Saldaña (as Neytiri), Sigourney Weaver (as Kiri), Stephen Lang (as Miles Quaritch), Cliff Curtis (Tonowari) and Kate Winslet (Ronal), plus newcomers Britain Dalton, Jamie Flatters, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass and Jack Champion.
