Tokyo Disney Resort first opened its doors on April 15, 1983, and today, April 15, 2023, it kicks off its 40th anniversary celebration, which will run through March 31, 2024.
Kicking Off the Celebration
Disney CEO Bob Iger and Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Josh D’Amaro are both at Tokyo Disney Resort to help kick off the 40th Anniversary celebrations. Notice both are wearing “Dream Garland” pieces on their name tags in the photo below (scroll down for more on the “Dream Garland”).
More from today’s 40th Anniversary start, where it’s a bit of a rainy day:
Dream-Go-Round
The theme of the 40th anniversary event is “Dream-Go-Round,” where the colorful dreams of guests, cast members and Disney friends join together as one, making it a special year for everyone to celebrate together.
Disney Harmony in Color
One of the highlights of the celebration is the first new daytime parade in five years called “Disney Harmony in Color.”
Themed to a “harmonious world of colors,” the parade allows guests to encounter beloved characters such as Mickey Mouse, as well as characters making their first appearance at Tokyo Disney Resort.
Character favorites from popular Disney films such as “Zootopia,” “Moana,” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” and Disney and Pixar films like “Coco,” will appear on colorful floats throughout the parade.
In the finale, Mickey Mouse and his friends appear, inviting guests to a world of colors and harmony.
Other Entertainment
In addition to the main parade, both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will be offering new shows and other daily entertainment for the 40th Anniversary.
“Club Mouse Beat” is a 25 minute show that will be held 4-5 times daily at Tokyo Disneyland. It features Mickey Mouse and his friends dancing to pop, hip-hop, Latin, and other music styles. The finale features the characters donning their 40th Anniversary outfits for one last dance.
Meanwhile Tokyo DisneySea will be home to “Let’s Celebrate With Colors,” a 10-minute show that will take place in the Mediterranean Harbor. Mickey Mouse and his friends will appear in their colorful outfits, on boats in the harbor, accompanied by the Tokyo Disney Resort 40th Anniversary theme song.
“Sky Full of Colors” in the new nighttime spectacular that can be viewed from both parks. The sky will be filled with fireworks set to a variety of Disney songs, including the 40th Anniversary theme song. It will take place nightly except from July 3 to September 6, 2023.
Dream Garlands
Garlands decorated for the 40th Anniversary “Dream-Go-Round” celebration will decorate both parks, and cast members will also be able to wear a “Dream Garland” piece on their nametags.
Tokyo Disney Resort says the “Dream Garland” represents the notion that guests, cast members and Disney friends are connected, like pieces of a garland, and will celebrate the 40th anniversary together in grand fashion.
Guided Tour
Tokyo Disney Resort will be offering the “‘Dream-Go-Round’ Tour,” a guided tour commemorating the 40th anniversary of Tokyo Disney Resort. A cast member will guide guests around key spots at Tokyo Disneyland, and share various stories of the ever-evolving Park. There will also be a special viewing area for the “Disney Harmony in Color” parade.
The cost is 6,000 yen per person (approx $45), and is only given in Japanese.
Celebrations Across the Resort
Disney Hotels will also welcome guests with 40th anniversary decorations, programs and exclusive items.
The entrances and lobbies at four Disney Hotels — Tokyo Disneyland® Hotel, Disney Ambassador® Hotel, Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta® and Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel® — will be decorated in honor of the 40th anniversary and guests staying at these hotels will receive specially designed postcards.
Additionally, from April 15 to July 20, rooms at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel will feature curtains and bed throws with 40th anniversary motifs. Over at Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel, rooms with 40th anniversary wallpaper will be offered from April 10 through March 31, 2024.
On the Disney Resort Line, themed trains commemorating the 40th anniversary will be in operation, allowing guests to enjoy the ambience of “Dream-Go-Round” throughout Tokyo Disney Resort.
40th Anniversary merchandise and themed food from snacks and treats to fine dining menus will also be available for guests to enjoy.
It all looks like a wonderful celebration. Will any of you be visiting Tokyo Disney Resort during its 40th Anniversary Celebration? Let us know in the comments.
